How a perpetual award plaque works

A perpetual award plaque is a single plaque (usually mounted on a wall) that holds a long list of names. The plaque itself does not change. New names are added on small engraved plates that are fixed to the plaque face, usually with screws or adhesive. The plaque can hold dozens, sometimes hundreds, of names over its lifetime. Plaque-style perpetual. A solid wood or acrylic plaque with engraved names directly on the face, no separate plates. Each new year’s name is added by engraving into the original plaque. Less common than the plate-style because it requires sending the plaque back to the engraver.

Cast bronze with plates. A solid bronze plaque with a header and small cast bronze plates for each year’s name. The most expensive option and the most long-lasting. Common in universities, country clubs, and corporate donor walls.

Acrylic or glass. A modern look, used for tech companies and design-conscious organizations. Engraved directly on the acrylic, or with printed inserts behind a clear face.

For outdoor use, bronze or anodized aluminum is the only practical choice. Wood and acrylic do not hold up.
